Watercourse Levels Elevated in Response to Rainfall
Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety (2024 Flood Event 6, Bulletin 2)
Issued July 11, 2024 at 12:00 noon; Valid until July 15, 2024
The Upper Thames River watershed received between 45 and 85 mm of rain over the past two days, resulting in elevated water levels across the watershed. Stream flows are peaking now in the upstream areas of the watershed (Mitchell, Tavistock areas) and the peaks will go through London and area late tonight and into early tomorrow. Watercourses are expected to remain high into early next week.
The ÌÇÐÄÖ±²¥â€™s (UTRCA) flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas are being operated to reduce downstream flows. UTRCA officials are monitoring the situation and will report on any changing conditions if necessary.
Parents and guardians are reminded to keep children and pets away from all watercourses. Water is swift-moving and levels high. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
It is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low lying areas that are prone to flooding.
