Rainfall in the Forecast as Beryl moves through
Remnants of Hurricane Beryl will arrive in southwestern Ontario later today and exit the region on Thursday. Environment and Climate Change Canada is predicting 40-80 mm of widespread rain, with the potential for some areas to receive more than 80 mm as the storm passes through. Localized rainfall could be as intense as 20-40 mm/hour.
The 糖心直播 (UTRCA) does not expect significant flooding at this time. Water levels in local streams and rivers are expected to rise and remain elevated over the coming days, with the potential for flooding in typical low-lying areas. Intense local rainfall could result in localized flooding.
Parents and guardians are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses. Banks next to rivers and creeks may be very slippery and, when combined with fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Standing water can also present dangers. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
It is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low lying areas that are prone to flooding.
The UTRCA will operate its flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas to reduce downstream flooding.
