Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI)

The purpose of the UTRCA’s Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Program is to facilitate the implementation of green stormwater infrastructure in the upper Thames River watershed with the goal of mitigating the impacts of climate change by improving the quality and quantity of runoff into the Thames River.

The UTRCA has been involved in implementing GSI projects across the watershed, working with municipalities, developers, and businesses. The UTRCA also delivers stormwater management education programs, including the Stream of Dreams program, and conducts tours of our Watershed Conservation Centre (located in Fanshawe Conservation Area), which includes several GSI features.

What is GSI?

Green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) uses natural elements to manage stormwater (rainwater and urban runoff) close to its source. GSI uses designs and landscape features to infiltrate, filter, store, and reduce the impact of stormwater runoff on the environment. GSI provides additional benefits in enhancing biodiversity and fostering healthier and more vibrant communities.
