GREENÌýLeadersÌýSummit Highlights Student-Driven Environmental ActionsÌý

Approximately 400 grade 7 and 8 students will gather at Huron University on May 22nd to share how they are making a difference in their communities through the ÌÇÐÄÖ±²¥'s (UTRCA) GREEN Leaders program.Ìý

RepresentingÌý16 classes from across the watershed, students haveÌýspent monthsÌýexploring local environmental challenges and developing hands-on "Action Projects" that turnÌýtheirÌýideas into impact. This year's projects highlight a wide range of creative and practical solutions, including microplastics-inspired art, Yellow Fish Road storm drain painting, wildflower garden installations, tree planting initiatives, and park improvement efforts.Ìý

The GREEN Leaders Student Summit brings these projects together in one space, where students will present their work to a panel of community leaders from across the academic, nonprofit, business, and government sectors. Among the guests is MPP Peggy Sattler, who will join other panelists in recognizing student achievement and offering feedback.Ìý

In addition to presentations, the summit will feature interactive and educational activities throughout the day. Students will take part in a live wildlife show presented by Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre, explore sustainability through an interactiveÌýart activity led by Western University PhD students, and engage in a giant Scrabble game focused on environmental themes.Ìý

"The GREEN Leaders program empowers students to see themselves as changemakers," saysÌýKarleeÌýFlear, Community Education Coordinator, UTRCA. "The summit is an opportunity to celebrate their hard work, creativity, and commitment to building more sustainable communities."Ìý

The GREEN Leaders program is made possible through the generous support of the Thames Valley District School Board, LondonÌýDistrictÌýCatholicÌýSchoolÌýBoard, HuronÌýPerthÌýCatholicÌýDistrictÌýSchoolÌýBoard, Huron University,ÌýProwind, Oxford Community Energy Cooperative, Gunn's Hill Limited Partnership.Ìý
