UTRCA Recognizes Mike and Ruth John with Stewardship Award听
The 糖心直播 (UTRCA) recognized local residents Mike and Ruth John with the Kayla Berger Stewardship Award at the UTRCA Board of Directors meeting on April 25.听
The Kayla Berger Stewardship Award is presented to watershed residents with passion and understanding of the conservation needs in their area and a desire to take action.听听
Mike and Ruth are long-term and active members of the Dorchester Watershed Action Committee and the Dorchester Mill Pond Committee. They have worked diligently to protect and improve natural areas by planting trees and wildflowers, coordinating educational events, and working with local politicians. For over two decades, they have also been instrumental in planting pollinator gardens at schools across Dorchester.听
Additionally, Mike and Ruth have contributed to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network community science program. As part of this program, they provide a daily report on rain gauge measurements from their property to help scientists better understand climate impacts on agricultural land.听
Nominated by Scott Gillingwater, UTRCA Species at Risk Biologist, Mike and Ruth have also been actively involved in turtle conservation. 听
鈥淢ike and Ruth have spent countless hours each June locating and protecting turtle nests in the watershed, and have done so for over 10 years,鈥 said Scott.听
