Streams and Rivers Remain High after Recent Rainfall

The 糖心直播 (UTRCA) reminds parents and guardians to keep children and pets away from streams, rivers, and ditches and out of any flooded areas. Watercourses are fast-moving and high from all the rain, and streambanks are soft and slippery.

Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low lying areas that are prone to flooding.

Heavy rain moved across the region this morning, bringing 30-60 mm of rain in areas north of London. The Upper Thames River watershed has now received 75-170 mm of rain over the past week, and the ground is saturated and unable to absorb runoff.

Watercourses across the watershed remain elevated from yesterday鈥檚 rain. The UTRCA expects streams and rivers in the North Thames watershed downstream of St Marys to rise due to this morning鈥檚 rain and potentially spill over bank into low lying areas.

The UTRCA continues to operate its flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas to reduce downstream peak flows. Discharges below the reservoirs will remain elevated through the week.
