London Hydro Tree PowerProgramReturns for 14th Year
London Hydro and the ֱ (UTRCA) have once again partneredfor the 14th year of the Tree Power program.The program wasinitiatedby the late Bill Kunz, a London Hydro employee who approached the UTRCA in 2012 with the idea of making native trees available and affordable for residents of London viaLondon Hydrosponsorship. Over the years,Tree Powerhas resulted in over 6,000 trees plantedbyLondonresidentsand isnowoffered in sixadditionalmunicipalitiesacrossthe watershed.The Kunzfamily,includingBill’swife, daughter andgrandchildren,carryon his legacy by volunteering ontreepick-up days.
“Tree Power is one of our most successful programs and we are excited to have new and returning customers take advantage of iteach year.It’sa great wayfor Londoners to improve their local environment, reduce residential heating and coolingcosts,and increase biodiversity. Thanks tosponsorshipfromLondon Hydro, we can provide trees to residents at a very affordable price,” said Robert Davies, UTRCA Forestry and Restoration Supervisor.
There are 10 tree species availablethis year: American Sycamore, Basswood, Bur Oak, Hackberry, Paper Birch, Red Oak, Sugar Maple, Tulip, WhitePine,and White Spruce trees. Thetreeswill be available for pick-up at Fanshawe Conservation Area in London on April 10th and 11th.
