Caution Advised Near Watercourses as Warm Temperatures and Rain Elevate Water Levels

The 糖心直播 (UTRCA) is encouraging the public to be cautious around local watercourses as snow melts with warming temperatures. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with fast-moving cold water, pose a serious hazard.

In addition to warmer weather, up to 10 mm of rain is forecast. These conditions are expected to melt some of the snowpack, causing runoff and elevated watercourses over the week.

The water content and depth of the snowpack varies depending upon location. The area near Highway 7 and Highway 23 as well as areas within London received the most snow last week.听Across the watershed, the average water content in the snowpack is equivalent to 31 mm of rain.

The UTRCA does not expect significant flooding with this event. However, streams and rivers will be higher than normal for this time of year, with the potential for flooding in low-lying areas and parks. Water levels will remain elevated through the week, increasing the safety risk around watercourses throughout the watershed.

The UTRCA will be operating its flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas to reduce downstream peak flows. UTRCA officials are monitoring the situation and will report on any changing conditions if necessary.

Remember to keep children and pets away from all watercourses. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
