Updates to the Thames-Sydenham and Region Source Protection Plan and Assessment Report under the Clean Water Act, 2006 – Public ConsultationÌýÌý
The Source Water Protection Program focuses on safeguarding existing and future sources of drinking water for municipal systems within the Thames-Sydenham Region. This is accomplished through policies that are developed through a collaborative working group called the Source Protection Committee under the framework of the Clean Water Act, 2006. â¶Ä¯â¶Ä¯ÌýÌý
In 2021, the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks released an update to the Technical Rules under the Clean Water Act, 2006.  These technical rules guide this program by defining how to delineate vulnerable areas around municipal drinking water systems and identifying threats to sources of drinking water. As a result, we have proposed several draft amendments to our current Source Protection Plan which may impact activities within properties that are near a municipal drinking water system.  â¶Ä¯ÌýÌý
As part of the required public consultation process under Regulation 287/07, we are inviting comments on these proposed updates. We would welcome the opportunity for you to comment on the updates and ensure any concerns are addressed. We value your input and look forward to working together to protect our shared water resources. ÌýÌý
Below, you will find a summary of the proposed updates, as well as a map illustrating where these changes may occur. All comments received during this consultation process will be reviewed by Source Protection Region staff and the Source Protection Committee. ÌýÌý

The recent amendments to the Tables of Drinking Water Quality Threats were made to address further potential risks associated with certain activities near municipal drinking water systems.Ìý
Once the amendment package has been approved, Risk Management Officials will work with landowners and businesses on negotiating Risk Management Plans if it is deemed that a significant drinking water threat activity is occurring on a property within a Wellhead Protection Area.ÌýÌý
