Boaters Beware
Zebra Mussels
Since 2002, zebra mussels have exploded in Fanshawe Reservoir and spread downstream in Thames River. These invasive species suffocate native mussels and disrupt ecosystems.
Let’s keep other reservoirs, like Pittock and Wildwood, free from zebra mussels. Together, we can protect our waterways!
How to Stop Zebra Mussels
Step 1
Remove mud, plants, and animals from your boat, trailer, and gear.
Step 2
Empty all water on land, away from waterways.
Step 3
Before visiting another body of water, either:
- Rinse with hot water;
- Spray with a high-pressure water (250 psi), or;
- Air dry your boat and gear for 5 days.
