Grade 7 and 8 Students Showcase Environmental Action Projects at GREEN Leaders Summit

Hundreds of students will gather at Huron University on June 3rd, 2025 to showcase how they are taking action for a greener future. These grade 7 and 8 students from the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB), London District Catholic School Board (LDCSB), and Huron Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) have been participating in the GREEN Leaders program, a hands-on initiative that empowers youth to address local environmental challenges through civic action.

Throughout the program, classes identified pressing environmental issues in their communities—from deforestation and loss of biodiversity to improving recycling in schools and tackling litter—and designed practical solutions to address them. Some classes developed awareness campaigns, while others implemented physical solutions like installing outdoor cigarette waste receptacles.

At the 2025 GREEN Leaders Student Summit, each class will present their “Action Projects” to a panel of local experts representing the academic, government, non-profit, and business sectors. Panelists will offer feedback and recognition, celebrating the students’ creativity, leadership, and commitment to sustainability.

The summit marks a culminating moment for these young changemakers to share their work, learn from others, and be recognized for their contributions to a healthier environment.

The GREEN Leaders program is generously supported by TVDSB, LDCSB, HPCDSB, GM Cami, Stratford Civic Beautification and Environmental Awareness Committee, and Huron University.
